== Description ==

This library was established in 1979, when the University of León was founded. The first collection  was based on materials that , until 1979, belonged to several centres part of the University of Oviedo and  the “Colegio Universitario de León”. The building  of  the Biblioteca Central,or “Biblioteca San Isidoro”  opened in October 1997.

== Collection ==

Collections include: 
  * 300,000 volumes. 
  * 8,000 journals.
  *  Cartographic materials, videos, CD, CDI, DVD etc.
  * Several centres of the University house the collections: Biblioteca Central, Faculty or College Libraries, etc.. Subjects included are those related to University studies, such as Education, Biology, Law, Linguistics, Literature, History, Geography, Art, Business History and Economics, Agriculture, Health and Science etc. 
  * Machine readable cataloguing: Implementation of automated systems began in 1995. Now , the database offers access to 150.000 bibliographic records.
