====== Diverted records from GND ======

**This section dates back to the time before the PND has been integrated into the GND, but the principles described here still apply**

Diverted records (Umlenkungssätze) are tagged with ''PND:diverted'' in 830 $6. If a record is marked as deprecated in the PND file, the corresponding field 801 will be removed from the CERL Thesaurus record. Thus, there can't be any further update to this record by the PND update mechanism.

===== Case 1 =====
The record can simply be deleted if
  * the record type (110$a) is ''2''
  * and the record does not hold a field 801  
  * and the record does not hold a field 956

===== Case 2 =====

  * the record type (110$a) is ''0''
  * and the record does not hold a field 801
  * and the record does not hold a field 956
the rule **Never delete a record with 110$a0, 110$a1 or 110$a3** applies. Proceed as follows:

   - retrieve the duplicate record (using the CERL Thesaurus web interface for convenience)
   - if there is no duplicate record, leave the record alone for the time being. (Though normally there should be a duplicate record, otherwise the Umlenkung wouldn't make sense). If the person described is born after 1830 the record can be deleted anyway.
   - put in a field ''831 #1$a'' holding the record identifier of the duplicate record.
   - save the record and press ''CTRL+D'' to retrieve the duplicate record.
   - Delete the whole record (the first one, not the duplicate one) except for possible fields 035 and the field 831 you've entered before. 
   - Confirm deduplication by clicking ''Yes''.
   - Remove the $6 subfields by pressing ''CTRL+6'' as usual and save the record.
