====== Collection Security Summer School 2023 ====== Our fifth in-person Collection Security Summer School focussed on working with staff and partners on Collection Security Issues. Libraries need to work with staff to keep good levels of security awareness, to engage them in drawing up policies and practices, and to develop emergency planning. Whether it is a question of moving collections in an emergency, evacuating reading rooms, increasing global vigilance or simply enhancing staff awareness, we will have to be creative and organised. With our partners, such as other libraries in our countries, monastic libraries or antiquarian booksellers, we speak about best practices and aligning our procedures. In this context, the theme for the CERL Collection Security Summer School was ‘Security Policy in Practice: Staff & Partners'. Presentations at previous editions of the summer school are available here.\\ ==== Programme 2023 - Security policy in practice: staff & partners ==== ** Date: ** Wednesday 6 September - Friday 8 September 2023\\ ** Venue:** Biblioteca Nacional de España, Madrid, Spain (Paseo de Recoletos, 20-22 Madrid 28071) == Wednesday 6 September == ^|14.00|Welcome and Introductions |Representative of BNE and Marian Lefferts, CERL| ^|14.30|CERL Security Working Group in2022/23 |Jacqueline Lambert, KBR Brussels and Chairman of the Security Working Group| ^|14.50|Cooperation with book antiquaries: lights and shadows|Greger Bergvall, Royal Library Sweden| ^|16.00|Break|| ^|16.30|Benchmarking the balance of access, security and preservation for significant library collections |Philippa Stevens, Churchill Fellowship| ^|17.30|Visit Marqués de Valdecilla Historical Library, Complutense University (including the travel to the venue)|| ^|19.15|End of visit/Social Time|| ^|20.30|Dinner at La Gloria Bar|| == Thursday 7 September == ^|9.00|Assemble in the meeting room|| ^|9.10|Marking our collections: to stamp or not to stamp? |Julie Gardham, University of Glasgow Information Services| ^|10.40|Break|| ^|11.15|Visit to the National Library of Spain|| ^|12.30|Lunch|| ^|13.30|Quick Audit Tool Discussion Cards |Jacqueline Lambert, KBR Brussels| ^|15.00|Break|| ^|15.30|Planning for a disaster: how to ensure the safety of the collections when you suddenly need to move a (large) part of the collections (due to pests, flood, any other disaster)|Henk Raap, KB, the National Library of the Netherlands| ^|16.45|Visit to the Prado Museum Library (including the travel to the venue)|| ^|18.15|End of visit/Social Time|| ^|20.30|Dinner at La cantina del Ateneo|| == Friday 8 September == ^|9.00|Assemble in the meeting room|| ^|9.10|Review, evaluation and update of facilities in times of cutbacks |Brian O'Donnell, National Library of Ireland| ^|10.20|Launch of the Quick Audit Tool Library and some idea on how to organise staff training |Jacqueline Lambert, KBR Brussels| ^|11.00|Break|| ^|11.30|Moving books from off-site locations to the library: methods of security employed and lessons learned |Wolfgang-Valentin Ikas, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek| ^|12.30|Conclusion|| ^|13.00|Lunch / End of the Summer School||
