Welcome
The Consortium seeks to share resources and expertise between research libraries with a view to improving access to, as well as exploitation and preservation of the European printed heritage in the hand-press period (up to c. 1830). The Consortium was formed in 1992 on the initiative of research libraries in many European countries and legally came into being in June 1994.

HPB migrates to OCLC‘s FirstSearch
The files which make up the Hand Press Book Database were transferred to OCLC‘s servers from 17 September 2007. They are now available to CERL members and other HPB subscribers through the FirstSearch interface. Access to the HPB through the Eureka and RLIN21 interface was terminated on 30 September 2007.
